WHAT'S NEW AT CVS?
CVS 10th Anniversary

anniversaryThe doctors and staff of California Veterinary Specialists are proud to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We have grown so much in a decade! We opened our doors on April 1st 2000 with a staff of 13. What we lacked in numbers we had in heart. We now have three campuses in two counties and a staff of 150.

We started our company with two specialties: emergency/critical care and internal medicine. This modest but solid foundation has supported our extraordinary growth into a company with diverse and extensive specialty services in surgery, oncology, radiation oncology, cardiology, imaging, dermatology, dentistry, ophthalmology, behavior, and of course emergency/critical care and internal medicine.

Our diagnostic capabilities have grown with our specialties. We started with a single x-ray machine, a stack of rare earth cassettes, and a solid workhorse of an ultrasound machine. Our imaging arsenal now includes digital x-ray, exponentially higher resolution ultrasound, CT, and MRI. In addition we are the only specialty hospital in the region with a full time board certified radiologist on staff for fast, expert image interpretation.

In 2007, we opened CVS Angel Care Cancer Center in our Carlsbad facility which quickly became internationally recognized for its excellence in medical and surgical oncology. To date we have cared for over 30,000 cancer patients and their families. The addition of radiation therapy gave us a new weapon in our war against cancer and we have provided therapeutic and palliative treatment to over 1000 patients. The Angel Care Cancer Center in an active participant in ongoing research with patients currently enrolled in eleven different clinical trials. This research benefits both pets and people in the ongoing fight against cancer.

Our hard work has paid off not only in growth, but in reputation. CVS has become an internationally recognized center for advanced veterinary training with our internship and residency programs. Our doctors are popular speakers and consultants in the community, across the USA and around the world.

Our practice philosophy is described in our motto “Special Care from the Heart”. It describes the compassion, love, and respect we give our patients, clients, referring doctors, and each other. We incorporate a unique approach using a treatment team to optimize patient care. Each specialist and patient care team member brings their expertise for the accomplishment of a common goal. Ideas are shared, communication is open, and everybody benefits.

Our beginnings were modest but ambitious, and we realize how extraordinarily fortunate we are to have had such support from this amazing community. These ten years have passed so quickly and so much has changed. We have weathered the effects of terrorist attacks, multiple natural disasters, and the worst economic downturn since the depression. What has not, and will not change however, is our commitment to our patients, our community, and our ideology that has defined California Veterinary Specialists. “Special Care from the Heart” will be here when you need us; for the next 10 years and beyond.

Thank you all for your continued support,
