They blend expert medical care with technology to provide services such as emergency management of congestive heart failure; echocardiography; and interventional cardiac techniques such as pacemaker implantation, balloon valvuloplasty, and coil occlusion for patent ductus arteriosus.
Dr. Herndon
William Herndon, DVM
Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology)

Following graduation from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University, Dr. Herndon completed internship training at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pa. He finished residency training in cardiology at the Veterinary Referral Center, Little Falls, N.J., and the Ryan Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pa. His areas of interest include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, therapy of heart failure, diastolic dysfunction, and electrophysiology.

Dr. Herndon is a board certified cardiologist and provides full service cardiovascular diagnostics and therapeutics-including pacemaker implantation, balloon valvuloplasty, and coil occlusion for patent ductus arteriosus. He is a featured consultant in cardiology on the Veterinary Information Network (VIN).

Dr. Herndon is conducting clinical research to develop blood tests for dogs and cats that may aid in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. Before joining California Veterinary Specialists, he was in a large specialty practice in the Washington D.C. area.

Sharon Huston, DVM

Dr. Huston is a veterinary cardiologist at California Veterinary Specialists (CVS). Her cardiology interests include emergency management of congestive heart failure in dogs and cats, echocardiography, and interventional cardiac techniques such as pacemaker implantation and balloon valvuloplasty.

After earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1998, Dr. Huston spent the next five years pursing advanced training at the Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York, the largest private practice veterinary hospital and research center in the U.S. While at the AMC, she completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery, which was followed by a three-year residency in veterinary cardiology. Dr. Huston earned her board certification in cardiology in 2002. She remained at the AMC from 2002-2003 as an associate staff cardiologist while also opening her own practice, New York City Veterinary Cardiology.

Prior to joining CVS in 2004, Dr. Huston was hired as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, where she continues to work on a part-time basis. She has written a chapter on Cardiovascular Disease in Rabbits, and is a frequent presenter and guest lecturer on veterinary cardiology topics. She is conducting research, studying treatment of congestive heart failure in cats.
