At our facility, our surgeons are available for consultation and to provide complete surgical services. Their services encompass neurologic, orthopedic; including THR, TPO, TPLO, and general surgery including oncologic, thoracic, and reconstructive surgery. Specialized diagnostic procedures such as myelography, CT and MRI are available.

Dr. Christian Osmond is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine. After he earned his doctorate degree in veterinary medicine, he completed an internship in medicine and surgery at the Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group in Ventura, California. Dr. Osmond then completed his 3 year residency in small animal surgery at North Carolina State University.
He has broad clinical interests including both soft tissue, orthopedic, and neurosurgery. He spent one year at the Comparative Orthopedic Research Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he worked on several projects including shoulder and knee surgery as it relates to developing treatments for arthritis. Additionally, he has a strong interest in oncology (cancer) surgery, as well as minimally invasive surgery and pain management.
When away from work, Dr. Osmond enjoys spending time with his wife, Linda and his pets: Taz, Spot, and Piper. He also enjoys flying airplanes and most outdoor activities such as biking, skiing, and backpacking.

Dr. Dhupa is Director of Surgery at CVS. His areas of expertise include neurosurgery, surgical oncology and orthopedics, as well as advanced diagnostic imaging.
Prior to becoming a partner in CVS, Dr. Dhupa practiced with Vet Surgery Associates, a large surgical practice in Northern California.
Dr. Dhupa earned his Bachelor of Veterinary Science and completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Liverpool, prior to completing a second residency in surgery at Purdue University. Dr. Dhupa was board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2001.

Dr. Wignall comes from a family of veterinarians in the United Kingdom and after pursuing veterinary school at the Royal Veterinary College in London, he returned home for a year in rural mixed animal practice. Adventure beckoned and he completed his surgical training at Louisiana State University where he found a southern girl, a love for the new Orleans Saints and a terrier called Maverick. His interests cover all aspects of orthopedics, soft tissue and neurosurgery, with a particular emphasis on the upper airway and minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Bissonnette graduated from Stanford University in 1980 with a B.S. and M.S. in Biological Sciences. Following his graduation from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicince in 1985, he completed an Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, and a three year Surgical Residency at North Carolina State University. He then spent one year as Clinical Instructor in Surgical Oncology at NC State, prior to returning to California and owning the Mobile Animal Surgery Service in the Bay Area for twenty years.
In 2012, Dr. Bissonnette joined Dr. Dhupa and CVS as Senior Faculty Instructor on the Surgery Service. He has worked at all three of the CVS facilities, and currently is teaching at the Carlsbad Campus. He enjoys windsurfing and kiteboarding in Baja California, where he spends winters with his family and friends.

Dr. Kara Berke received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Ohio State University in 2011 and holds a Bachelor of Science as well. She spent a year at the Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio enrolled in a general medicine internship where she discovered her passion for surgery. Dr. Berke joined the surgical team at California Veterinary Specialists in July 2012.
Dr. Berke, an Ohio native, found her love of the beach while here in California. In her spare time she enjoys travelling, skiing and going on hikes with her two dogs, Gus and Cody.

Originally from Connecticut, Dr. DeSandre received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 2009. She is also certified in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture and Veterinary Business Management. She completed a small animal rotating internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey. Dr. DeSandre went on to complete her Small Animal Surgery residency with Affiliated Veterinary Specialistsin Florida. She then spent a year as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Small Animal Surgery at Purdue University in Indiana. Dr. DeSandre’s professional areas of interest include: oncologic surgery, comparative oncology, reconstructive surgery, oral maxillofacial surgery, wound management, minimally invasive surgery, and interventional radiology.
When Dr. DeSandre is not working, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. Her pet family includes Zack, a 16 year old Silky Terrier, and Logan, a 6 year old mixed breed dog. Her and her husband, Nick, are ecstatic to be moving to California and Dr. DeSandre is very much looking forward to working alongside a wonderful group of people at California Veterinary Specialists.
